Growing Our Faith
God is ultimately the builder and grower of our faith, but it is important that we are active participants in that growth process. This Bible study just touches the tippy top surface of that huge iceberg called growing your faith. It is a starting point for anyone on their faith journey. And, a gentle reminder for those whose faith roots have had years to grow deep into God's Word, His training and His love. When we seek God, our faith will continue to grow.

Hebrews 11:6
This Scripture tells us that without faith, it is impossible to please God...
What are your thoughts on this Scripture?
Since pleasing God is essential to our Christian life, building our faith is an important step. We are living in a world where the temptation to doubt God is continually coming at us. Because of this, we need more than ever to learn how to trust in God and build a strong faith.
What are some things in our world today that could cause you to doubt?
Hebrews 11:1-3
After reading this Scripture, define faith in your own words…
Faith is not just an intellectual “believe in” stance, but a reliance, trust and belief that leads to action. We act according to our belief system.
In what ways do you act or live out your belief system?
Romans 10:17; 1 Corinthians 2:5
Origins of faith…
Faith is not self-made, Faith comes by hearing…
The word “hearing” in the Greek means both hearing the sound and paying attention to it. Those are two different things. To simply hear sound, there is no need to pay attention to or understand it. God not only wants us to hear His Word, but to pay attention to it and understand what it is saying. By understanding what God is saying to us, we then can trust and believe what He is saying on a deeper level. It builds our faith.
List some ways in which you can more actively hear God’s Word, pay attention to it and understand what He is saying personally to you.
Ephesians 3:16-17
Faith comes to us through the power of the Holy Spirit…
The Holy Spirit gives us power to have faith ‘so that’ we may better understand and know Jesus Christ and His love in our hearts.
Mark 9:21-24; Luke 17:5-6
If you lack faith, ask God for it…
This father gives us a good example of both believing and not believing at the same time. I’m sure he had seen Jesus heal many people already. He knew it was possible, yet I’m sure he questioned, “was it possible for his child to be healed?” So many times we feel unworthy or other feelings get in the way of our faith.
Do you at times feel this way when trusting God for something?
What are some things that cause you to doubt?
How often do you ask God to help your unbelief?
James 1:1-8; 1 Peter 1:3-9; Romans 5:3-5
Trials build faith, trust and perseverance…
Trials are not fun!!! For me, the biggest way that I personally see that trials build my faith is that they cause me to seek God more. I become more reliant on Him to get me through the trial.
What are some ways you see that God builds faith through trials?
How has He personally grown your faith through a trial?
2 Corinthians 5:7;
Walk by faith, not by sight…
Live by faith even if things seem impossible. Tell God you trust Him in the situation. Speak your trust and faith out loud to God. Tell others what God has done for you.
List ways that you can walk by faith, not by sight.
Proverbs 3:5-6;
Trust God instead of your own understanding of a situation…
What are some things that limit our understanding?
